Zimbabwe Sends Coaching Staff Packing After ICC World Cup Qualification Failure

Cricket Zimbabwe has decided to part ways with its coaching staff on the back of the team’s failure to qualify for the World Cup next year.

According to press reports, the captain Graeme Cremer was axed, and it’s suggested in the press that Brendan Taylor will take over leadership of the team.

Additionally, the national coaching staff, head coach Heath Streak, batting coach Lance Klusener, bowling coach Douglas Hondo, fielding coach Walter Chawaguta, fitness coach Sean Bell, and team analyst Stanley Chioza have also been sacked.

All other coaching staff, including the Zimbabwe “A” team coach Wayne James and Under-19 coach Stephen Mangongo, have been fired.

The reports noted that the convener of selectors Tatenda Taibu has also been stripped of his position.

The entire group is reported to have been given an ultimatum to step down on Friday.

However, it is reported that Streak and his staff have refused to resign on the principle that they did not consider their overall work a failure.

Consequently, they are holding out for the board to make their decision.
