Windies Depart India Winless

Windies came, competed, but couldn’t conquer; that’s all she wrote.

Rohit Sharma earned bragging rights after Suryakumar Yadav explosive batting performance helped his team to secure a 17-run win over the West Indies in the final T20I.

There was a glimmer of hope when the Windies had team India penned down at 93-4 towards the end of the 14th over in Kolkata.

However, the boyz in maroon could not bring about the knock-out punch and were made to pay in the last six overs.

The batting display put on by Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer, who hit seven and two sixes respectively, was sensational.

They counterattacked to put on 91 off 37 deliveries, giving the Windies little or no chance of a comeback.

At their turn at the wicket, the Windies found Harshal Patel’s bowling difficult to put away, and at the end, they folded on 167 for 9.

Harshal’s 3 for 22 was the standout bowling performance of the match.

Rovman Powell’s 25 off 14 got the run rate up, but he fell in the seventh over, with captain Kieron Pollard (five) swiftly following.

Jason Holder (two) and Chase (12) also went in quick succession, though Nicholas Pooran (61) stayed in to give the Windies hope.

However, Shardul Thakur (2-33) brought in the fat lady to sing, and that marked the end of any hope the Windies harbored.
