West Indies chairman of selectors Desmond Haynes calls for a new approach to batting as the Windies take on Bangladesh in a three-match T20 and ODI series, respectively.

Haynes underscored the significant difference between both formats of the game and the adjustments in mindset needed to perform well.

He said, “I find that with fifty overs, we got to be thinking along the lines of making sure that we organize the batting department where we can bat fifty overs.”

He added, “I don’t think it’s a T20 game where we can say go hard up front and then we hope that a backup bowler or somebody hit a six at the end.”

Haynes also noted that in the fifty-overs format, batters should consider the fact that they have three hundred balls to bat, and it demands patience by batsmen.

“Fifty overs is three hundred balls that’s a lot of balls to face so it’s very important for us to make sure we get starts and have people in the middle who could rotate the strike and reduce the duck balls,” added Haynes.

He also said opportunities should be created upfront so big batters can go out blazing in the last five to eight overs.
