The UN global food index has been showing an increase in trend in global food cost for the past 12 months.
The report noted that on an annual basis food prices were up 39.7% in May – the biggest month-on-month gain since October 2010.
Suppliers have been affected by disruptions to production, labor, and transport during the pandemic.
