Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, a rumored possible running mate for Donald Trump, said in an interview Sunday that it’s a woman’s right to choose whether or not she wants an abortion.
“They’re the ones that have to make the decision because they’re the ones that are going to decide to bring up that child or not,” Flynn told ABC’s “This Week.”
“But it’s a difficult legal decision … and I think women are so important in that decision-making process.”
Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, faced controversy earlier in his campaign when he said there would have to be “some form of punishment” for women who obtain abortions if the procedure were outlawed.
He later backtracked saying only doctors who perform illegal abortions should be held responsible.
Trump has said he is “pro-life with exceptions.”
