Trump Puts Congress On Warning

In a weekend tweet, U.S. President Donald Trump sounded the alarm that Congress must have a deal to fund the federal government before going on their summer recess in August.

In his tweet, he alluded that the funding bill should include money to build a wall on the border with Mexico.

“The Senate should get funding done before the August break, or NOT GO HOME,” he tweeted. “Wall and Border Security should be included.”

A $1.3 trillion spending bill, which Trump signed in March, will keep the government funded through the end of September.

The President has been hell-bent on having his border wall built ever since the heyday of his election campaign. During that time Trump insisted that the wall would be paid for by Mexico.

However, Mexico has continued to scoff at the idea of paying for such a venture.

Trump has subsequently turned to Congress but has only had the approval of $1.6 billion to replace existing barriers and add some fencing in new areas — a far cry from the required amount to build the President’s wall prototype.
