Winward Islands Volcanoes took the bridesmaid position against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force after suffering a two-wicket defeat in their encounter in the Regional Super50 at Coolidge Cricket Ground here Friday.
Windwards posted a challenging total of 266 for 7 after Darren “the finisher” Sammy’s heroics of an unbeaten 60 off 36 balls.
At the same time, Sunil Ambris, a budding bright Windies prospect batter made light work of the bowling attack earlier before he was taken out for 69 by Red Force’s 35-year-old medium-pacer Rayad Emrit.
Ravi Rampaul, a returnee to the regional cricket set up, was the pick of the bowlers for the Red Force with a 4 fer for a mere 43 runs.
Red Force got off to a rollicking start in their turn at the wicket as opening batter Evin Lewis was Gayle-like in his approach striking a half-century off just 32 balls. He was ably supported by Kyle Hope as the pair together put on a 94-run opening partnership.
Adding to the run flavor of the inning were Jason Mohammed, captain and wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin and Imran Khan with scores of 80, 33, and 30 respectively.
The game was all over by the shout when Roshon Primus hit the winning runs to overhaul the Volcanoes scores of 266 with two overs to spare.
