Jamaica’s Government made history with a trillion-dollar national budget set for the fiscal year 2023/24.
Finance and Public Service Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke tabled the historic Estimates of Expenditure for the fiscal year 2023/24 in the House of Representatives Tuesday afternoon.
The budget’s largest single item of expenditure is the $338 billion for wages and salaries for public sector employees.
“In line with the requirements of the Financial Administration and Audit Act, I am tabling today, for the fiscal year 2023/2024 budgetary documents which provide an outline of the Government’s plan for the country over the medium term,” said Clarke.
He added that: “Building on the achievements of the fiscal year 2022/2023, the government plans to spend $1 trillion in the fiscal year 2023/2024.
This is Jamaica’s first trillion-dollar budget”.
Clarke explained that the amount is allocated across the main expenditure.
