In a debate that lasted for 120 minutes and garnered viewership of over 24 million people — a record for a primary contest, according to Nielsen, feedback has gone viral on social media.
In keeping with his brash persona, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump also took to social media to express his disgust as well as take digs at the three moderators of the debate, particularly Fox News host Megyn Kelly.
Trump was among the 10 Republican candidates selected to participate in the prime time debate and was thrown questions that would have made the average contender stumble.
However, Trump is no underdog, and he acquitted himself well despite the wishes of some people to see him fail in the debate.
He tweeted that Ms. Kelly and her co-moderators were “not very good or professional”.
He also took swipe at Republican pollster, Frank Luntz, whose focus group in a live broadcast after the debate gave an overwhelming thumbs-down to Mr. Trump’s performance.
Trump said of Luntz in his tweet, “Your so-called “focus groups” are a total joke. Don’t come to my office looking for business again. You are a clown.”
Trump fumbled a bit on his past support for a national healthcare system; however, he was thrown off his game when Kelly challenged him on his views about women.
“You’ve called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals,” she said.
He answered by joking that he only said that about actress Rosie O’Donnell and made the point that political correctness was one of the country’s biggest problems.
“I don’t have time for total political correctness,” he said.
He also said of Fox News, “You should be ashamed of yourself. I got you the highest debate ratings in your history and you say nothing but bad…”
