Sri Lankans turned out in large numbers in the streets to protest the Rajapaksa-led government.
The country faces food shortages, increases in prices, power cuts, fuel shortages, and a health system that is in crisis.

The police have used teargas and water cannon to disperse students attempting to storm the national parliament demanding Rajapaksa’s resignation.
The demonstrators have blamed Rajapaksa and his ruling family for mismanaging the economy.
