Reggae Girlz Fall Short In Nil All Draw Against Guatemala

Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz were sent home with a draw from their last bid to qualify for the preliminary round of the Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup.

The Girlz 1-1 draw against Guatemala in the final match of Group B of League A on the Road to W Gold Cup on Sunday night at the Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores in Guatemala City, was a setback for the female program and the JFF no doubt will receive a lot of flak for this undesirable outcome.

The result also means that Panama has finished in first place in the group and has qualified for the W Gold Cup group stage. Guatemala will progress to the Prelims, while Jamaica finish in third.

Guatemala struck the first blow when Ana Martinez was taken down in the Jamaica penalty area and converted from the spot to hand the home side a 1-0 lead.

The Girlz worked hard to equalize in the 66th minute through a goal by Davia Richard.

However, the Guatemalan held firm, thus preventing Jamaica from putting another goal in the back of the net.

The draw ultimately helped the Guatemalan to secure the necessary result to earn their prelim spot going forward in the competition.
