Powell — “Another Opportunity To Showcase My Talent”

Jamaica’s rising star cricket all-rounder Rovman Powell is making strides in his cricketing career and will soon be parading his skills among some of the world’s established and best T20 players.

Powell was recently bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders to play for the franchise in the upcoming 2017 Indian Premier League season.

The 23-years-old all-rounder has already played for major teams such as Combined Campuses and Colleges, Comilla Victorians, Jamaica, Jamaica Tallawahs, and Jamaica Scorpions.

Powell made his List A debut in January 2015, playing for the Combined Campuses against Guyana in the 2014–15 Regional Super50 and soon after made his first-class debut in the 2015–16 Regional Four Day Competition, playing for Jamaica against Guyana. He followed this up by making his One Day International (ODI) debut in the second match of the tri-series, against Sri Lanka in November 2016.

He has his highest score of 95 and best bowling figures of 5 for 36 in the List A format of the game. He also boasts a strike rate of 119.37 in the Twenty20 format.

The Kolkata Knight Riders paid 30 lakhs, approximately US $45,000 to acquire Powell’s service in the IPL.

Should Powell feature in the April 5 – May 21 competition, it would mark his first appearance in an overseas franchise tournament, despite being drafted for both the Bangladesh and Pakistan Twenty20 leagues.

“It’s another opportunity to showcase my talent. I’ve put in a lot of hard work behind the scenes and it’s a good feeling to see that everything has come to the party,” said Powell in a press report.

Powell will be joined at the Knight Riders by Trinidadian Darren Bravo with mystery spinner Sunil Narine returning to the squad.
