By unplugging the music service
Microsoft music service, Zune, is no more on the market.
The company’s Zune players and digital music service were launched in 2006 to rival Apple’s iPod and iTunes.
However, the company could not match the entrenched position Apple maintained and consequently never created any serious impact on the market.
The Zune hardware players were discontinued in October 2011 and in June 2012, Microsoft announced plans to discontinue all “Zune” services.
The Zune music download and streaming service was aborted a week ago and remaining Zune subscribers will now be switched over to Microsoft’s Groove music platform.
Any remaining Zune players will still work as an MP3 player, but will no longer be able to stream online music.
