Melbourne Stars has announced the signing of West Indies batsman Andre Fletcher for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL).
The announcement came against the background of Jonny Bairstow’s withdrawal from the League after being recalled by England.
Fletcher has been in New Zealand with the West Indies T20 squad and will join fellow West Indian Nicholas Pooran at the Stars.
Over the past few years, Fletcher has plied his trade on the T20 circuit, playing more than 200 T20 domestic matches around the world including the Caribbean Premier League, the Canadian GT20, Pakistan Super League, and Bangladesh Premier League.
He played a key role in the St Lucia Zouks, reaching the CPL final this year in the Caribbean domestic competition.
The 33-year-old Windward Islands and West Indies right-handed batsman and part-time wicketkeeper was one of the million-dollar winners during the inaugural Stanford Super Series in Antigua.
He made his first-class debut against Trinidad & Tobago at Port of Spain, Jan 30, 2004, and T20I against Australia at Bridgetown, Jun 20, 2008.
