Love In Paradise – Part 29

The Game Changer

As he slowly approached her home, he began to feel a sudden burst of nervousness. The words “should I stay or should I go” kept playing over and over again in his head. After a few seconds of thinking, he decided to go up and knock on the door.

“Hi, you’re here,” she said in a high pitch voice. It was clear from her tone of voice that she was extremely happy to see him. After all, it had been a few years now since she last saw his face.

“Yes, that’s right… I am… here,” he said nervously. He tried hard not to look at her face but he couldn’t help it. Her beauty was breath-taking.

“Come on in,” she said taking his hand and leading him through the front door. They sat in the living room for a while in silence, looking at one another.  It was a bit awkward for the two. They both tried to think of a way to begin the conversation, but instead they nervously smiled at each other.

“So, what did you want to talk about?” he asked finally. He didn’t like the idea of being alone with her and just really wanted to get it over with.

“Well, I just wanted to catch up with you and see how you were doing,” she replied.

“Well I have been doing ok. I am in a great job, I bought my first home a couple of years ago with my wife,” he said.

“No Kids?”

“Nope, what about you?” he asked her.

“Well, no kids yet. I’m not married either. I have just been focusing on my life and trying to get my life together,” she replied. Abe nodded his head as he listened to her. “It has been really hard for me, but I am proud of where I am at now. Would you like a tour of the house?”

Trying to be polite, he replied, “sure, I guess, why not.”

The next seventeen minutes were spent giving Abe a tour of her home. Abe could tell it was recently acquired and very important to her because how she took the tour so seriously. Every item in the house had some deeper meaning and story about how hard she had to work to get it. She was so caught up in his company that she didn’t notice the lack of enthusiasm in his facial expressions.

Abe’s patience was growing thin. Something wasn’t right, and he needed to know what it was. “I just wanted to know what it is that you wanted to talk about. Why did you ask me to come here?” he asked sternly.

She took one big sigh before she began to speak. “I just wanted to tell you that there was something I was keeping from you.”

“Ok. Tell me what it is…” he said.

“I really wanted to tell you, and this is probably not the right to say this or maybe it is … I don’t know.”

“Just tell me,” he begged impatiently.

“Your wife is cheating on you.”
