Khadijah Shaw’s Hat Trick Ruins Sheffield United Plan

Jamaica’s star footballer Khadijah Shaw was in a no-skylarking mood as she scored a hat-trick to lead Manchester City to a 7-0 rout of Sheffield United in their FA Women’s Cup fourth-round match at the Academy Stadium on Sunday.

The Manchester City manager Gareth Taylor had made it clear from the outset that his team was not prepared to take the opposition for granted, second-tier or not.

“With some of the teams you play, there’s not a huge amount of difference in level between the kind of top end of the championship to the bottom end of the WSL,” he said.

“I think it’s just making sure that as a team, we are prepared, we’re focused. We’re not being neglectful of the opposition.”

The Reggae girl Shaw played to the tune of her manager as she opened the scoring in the 16th minute.

The three-time FA Women’s Cup champions doubled their lead when Chloe Kelly scored in the 38th minute as City showed their mettle.

Deyna Castellanos then scored on the stroke of half-time to send City into the break with a 3-0 lead.

Shaw again put her name on the scoresheet with her second goal six minutes after the break before Julie Blakstad scored the first of her two goals in the 53rd minute.

Blakstad scored her second in the 78th minute to make it 6-0.

Shaw completed her hat trick in the 87th minute to show her class and put her team in a 7-nil position to win the match in a dominating display of football.
