Kanye Omari West, the American rapper, record producer, and fashion designer has been named Billboard’s Top Gospel Artiste of 2020.

The 43-year-old controversial rapper bested the top five acts including Kirk Franklin, Tasha Cobbs, Leonard, and his own Sunday Service Choir.

His album Jesus Is King topped the Billboard 200 chart and is among the Top Gospel Albums and Top Christian Albums.

The album had the biggest ever first week sales for a faith-based project, selling over 264,000 units.

West is also atop the Hot Gospel Songs chart with the single Follow God, which was driven by airplay, streaming and actual sales.

He has been dubbed as one of the most influential artistes in the 21st-century in the development of mainstream hip hop and popular music in general.
