Japan’s former prime minister Shinzo Abe died in hospital after he was shot at a political campaign event.
The 67-year-old former leader was hit as the gunman fired twice before he was tackled to the ground by security officials.
The gunman, a 41-year-old suspect is now in police custody.
The suspect, Tetsuya Yamagami, reportedly admitted to the shooting of the former Prime Minister.
He reportedly told the police that he had a grudge against a “specific organization to which Mr. Abe is linked.
Police have searched and found several other handmade weapons, similar to those used in the attack, at the gunman’s home.
Explosives were also found at the home and residents were advised to evacuate the area.
