Jamaica, dubbed the land of wood and water as well as a tourist’s paradise may prove to be the place to go and a decision made in the right direction.

However, as you make your hajj to the country, there is one place you cannot afford to ignore on your visit – James Bond Beach.

This tropical and idyllic setting is located on a small peninsula at Oracabessa Bay about 10 miles from Ocho Rios, a popular tourist destination on the north coast.

The beach gets its name from the fictional spymaster, James Bond, created by author Ian Fleming, who spent a lot of time in Jamaica not only writing his novels but also enjoying the beauty of the country.

James Bond Beach lies close to Port Maria, the capital of St. Mary, one of the fourteen parishes in Jamaica.

At James Bond Beach, apart from just lying on the white sand and soaking up the tropical sun, there are lots of other activities you can add to your leisure time. These include snorkeling, traveling the seas in a glass-bottomed boat, kayak, or wave runner, volleyball game, parasailing, jet skiing, kite flying, among others.

This beach is a great favorite of both locals and tourists. Moreover, scenes from the James Bond movie Dr. No were filmed at the beach. It is surrounded by crystal clear water on three sides, and the mountains of St Mary reach straight down to the sea, a sight which serves as the beach’s backdrop

Many hotels lie within the vicinity of James Bond Beach, so finding accommodation is fairly easy. Among the hotels closest to the beach are the Golden Seas Beach Resort (3.5 miles, 79 rooms), Couples Ocho Rios (5.7 miles, 206 rooms), Jamaica Inn (8.6 miles, 53 rooms); Royal Plantation (8.7 miles, 36 rooms), Sandals Grande Ocho Rios Beach & Villa Resort (9.2 miles, 529 rooms); Crane Ridge Resort (10.2 miles, 90 rooms), and the Village Hotel (10.3 miles, 34 rooms).

In addition, there are many historical and natural scenic attractions in close proximity to James Bond Beach. These include Coyaba River Garden and Museum, Enchanted Gardens, Dunn’s River Falls, Harmony Hall and Firefly.

So, enjoy the locals, food, and sun.

However, to live deliciously on your stay in the island, James Bond beach must be on your places to go list.
