According to Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, there is a projection of a 40 percent increase in arrivals over the winter tourist season when compared to the preceding periods of massive downturn.
He told the House of Representatives that preliminary figures from the Jamaica Tourist Board indicate that between June and December, there were 317,701 passengers arrived in the island.
The tourism sector earned more than US$450 million.
Mr. Bartlett said the projection earnings will get to more than US$600 million.
The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association has predicted a soft start to the Winter Tourist Season.
