Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz ambition to reach the World Cup set for Qatar this year all but vanished when Costa Rica beat them 1-0 on home soil last evening.
It was a must win contest for the Boyz at the National Stadium, but the Costa Rican proved to be the better team on the park.
Joel Campbell scored the decisive goal in the 62nd minute for the Costa Ricans who had missed a penalty a minute earlier.
Reggae Boyz captain and goalkeeper Andre Blake had saved Celso Borges’ penalty kick in one of few bright moments for the home side in the contest.
The Jamaicans lost all three matches in this qualifying window to remain on 7 points and in 7th place. They will close out their disappointing campaign with matches against El Salvador, Canada, and Honduras in March.
