Jamaica’s COVID-19 positivity rate has increased to 23.8 percent amid the presence of the highly transmissible Omicron BA.2 variant.
The Ministry of Health says 89 COVID-19 cases were confirmed on Monday from 2,216 samples.
Hospitalizations from the virus have reached 37, up from 28 on Sunday.
One of the patients is severely ill while two are in critical condition.
Two more fatalities have pushed Jamaica’s death toll from the coronavirus to 2,969.
The deceased is an 89-year-old man from St. Catherine and a 69-year-old Kingston man.
