Alia Shanee Atkinson, the 29-year-old Jamaican swimmer, and Olympian clocked 28.56 seconds in the short course 50 meter to break her own record at the FINA World Cup in Budapest, Hungary.
Atkinson outdid her past record of 28.64 seconds which she set in 2016.
Her gold record performance has reaffirmed the Jamaican swimming prowess.
Russias’s Yuulia Efimova managed to clock 29.22 seconds to place second with American Molly Hannis finishing third in 29.51 seconds.
Atkinson’s was winning her second gold medal at the meet as she had won the 100-meter breaststroke earlier in 1:02.80, just off her world record of 1:02.36 seconds.
The next stop on the FINA World Cup Series will be in Beijing from November 2-4.
