According to the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), visitor arrivals to the island continue to be at a record high since the start of the year.

The Board noted that tourist arrival had exceeded its projected five percent increase with a 6.1 percent increase with two months remaining in the year.

It also noted that for the May to August period, there was about 10 percent increase in stopover visitor arrivals.

The JTB underscored the point in its release, noting that the figures reinforce that the tourism sector is on a firm growth trajectory.

The board said due to Jamaica’s tourism boom; the island is seeing both an expansion of existing hotels and new developments resulting in a significant increase in room stock.

Furthermore, it said the island is poised to obtain the 15,000 additional rooms projected by 2021 which will continue to propel growth in the sector with an increase in arrivals and earnings.
