Jeavor Royal is the only Jamaican deemed qualified for invitation to Windies Under-19 training squad as preparation gets underway for next year’s ICC Under-19 Title defense

The training is currently being held in Antigua and will cover a 9-day period.

“The camp for the 21-member squad is highly specialized, and focuses intensely on the skills necessary to be successful in the 50-overs format.  The coaching staff has tailored a comprehensive training package, which not only focuses on nurturing the young players’ talent, but developing some useful methods relevant to real match scenarios also,” said Head Coach, Graeme West.

The squad as part of its preparation also participated in the the West Indies Super50 competition recently.

Additionally, the squad is scheduled to participate in tour games against South Africa and Zimbabwe later during the year.

So, the question among some cricket fans is, who is Jeavor Royal?

This young 18 year-old Jamaican cricketer was born December 2, 1998.

Royal honed his skills at Inns Wood High School playing Under-15 cricket. He later moved on to captain his school’s senior team for more than three years.

In a recent semi-finals of the 2017 Inter-secondary Schools Sports (ISSA)/Grace Shield cricket competition he blasted 126 runs off 48 balls hitting 12 sixes and four fours.

He also plays in Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Senior Cup competition for St. Catherine Cricket Club.

He made his List A debut for the West Indies Under-19 in the 2016-17 Regional Super50 on February 17, 2017.

Royal is not only a promising right-hand batter, but also a slow left-arm orthodox spin bowler.

He has played a number of cameo innings not only for his school, but also for his national team.

Locally, a number of pundits have reposed a lot of confidence in Royal and have dubbed him as one with a bright future in cricket.
