In less than two minutes in the second half in the match between Ivory Coast and Japan in Group C World Cup action, Ivory Coast had Japan gasping as the African nation turned up the heat to come out 2-1 winner in their first match.
Japan had earlier taken a one nil lead into the break after Keisuke Honda rocketed a wicked left foot shot into the net of the Ivory Coast goal 16 minutes after the start of the match.
However, Ivory Coast would not be denied. Their first goal came with a glancing header from Wilfried Bony; and almost immediately after, the second came from another across with Girvinho beating the Japan goalkeeper at his near post with a header.
Ivory Coast will now go into their second match with 3 points when they take on Greece on Tuesday, June 24 at 3:00 pm at the Fortaleza Stadium.
In the previous Group C game Colombia defeated Greece 3-0.
