India and England are set to play the 2nd test match on 13th February at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. The Vistors England are 1-0 up in series with 3 more matches to be played in this tour.
India playing at home will be very disappointed with their performance in the first test. Losing the toss had also costed the team as spinners of India were ineffective on days 1 and 2.
England batters have played the Indian spinners well by rotating strikes regularly and scoring boundaries off bad deliveries. One thing that stood out between Indian fast-bowlers and England pacers was the amount reversing which the England bowlers – Archer and Anderson were able to generate than the India bowlers.
After losing the first test, Virat Kohli’s men were criticized for wrong team selection in the bowling department as left-arm off-spinner Shahbaz Nadeem was selected ahead of left-arm chinaman, Kuldeep Yadav.
Kuldeep has been warming the bench for quite a while now as he didn’t get to play in the entire Australian test series. Not getting a chance to play even in-home condition may shatter his confidence to a huge extent.
Axar Patel was seen training in the nets, as visuals indicate that he has recovered from the injury. Sources believe that left-arm off-spinner Axar will replace the all-rounder Sundar to bring a variety and contribute with the bat as well.
India will hope to expect a lot better from senior players – Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane who have flopped with the bat in both the innings of the first test.
India Probable 11: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli (C), Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar / Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma
England Team News:
England is expected to make few tweaks in the squad as they follow the rotation-policy of players.
Jos Buttler has returned back home, there Ben Foakes will replace him as a wicket-keeper batsman.
England suffers a big blow before the start of the 2nd test as Jofra Archer gets ruled out due to elbow injury. Broad will be ready to play the second test in place of him.
Joe Root is expected to continue his good-form and along with him, some more valuable contribution is also required from other batsmen – Pope, Burns, and Sibley.
England Probable 11:
Rory Burns, Dom Sibley, Daniel Lawrence, Joe Root(C), Ben Foakes(WK), Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope, Dom Bess, Jack Leach, James Anderson, Stuart Broad
Pitch and Weather conditions:
Since the venue is the same as the previous test, not much difference we can expect from the rest of the pitches in the square of Chepauk. Utmost, the curators make the pitch more lively so that even the pace-bowlers get a bit of help off the pitch.
The weather in Chennai is traditionally hot, hence players must keep themselves hydrated through the 5 days of the match.
After a long time, the India team will see the return of fans in stands.
50% of crowd capacity has been allowed in stands as all tickets have been sold out within hours.
Overall, it is going to be yet another exciting test match coming up. India cannot afford to lose any of the three matches in this test series as it will cost them to lose their place in the ICC Test Championship Final. England will look to continue their winning (2 matches in Sri Lanka and 1 in India) streak in Asia.
