Former U.S. President Donald Trump Seeks To Distance Himself From Russia’s Top Honcho

“Putin is having a lot of trouble right now. He’s having big big trouble because he thought it was going to be a 48-hour deal and the Ukrainians are good fighters,” said former President Donald Trump in an interview with Fox News’ talk show host, Sean Hannity.

Trump was heavily criticized for praising Putin’s justification to invade Ukraine as “savvy” and “genius” on February 22, two days before Russian troops attacked Ukraine.

In the interview, Trump touted his relationship with Putin and repeatedly claimed that the invasion “would have never happened” if he were president.

John Bolton, Trump’s former national security advisor, earlier said that Putin put off invading Ukraine during Trump’s presidency because “Putin saw Trump doing a lot of his work for him.”
