English Cricketer Hails Nicholas Pooran

Tom Kohler-Cadmore, the 24-year-old English cricketer who plays for Yorkshire, has heaped praise on young rising star Windies batsman, Nicholas Pooran.

Kohler-Cadmore posited the view that Pooran is the “next big thing” in cricket.

He made his remark after watching Pooran’s performance in the ongoing Vitality Blast T20 League.

Pooran has recently signed a five-game contract to play for Yorkshire.

So far, the young Windies batter is proving his weight with the bat and got people talking about his star quality.

Pooran in his most recent outing for Yorkshire slammed 67 off 28 balls in a win over Leicestershire.  The left-hander shared 121 in only 8.1 overs for the second wicket with Kohler-Cadmore, who top-scored with an unbeaten 96.

“If we had him [Pooran] for a full season, the crowds would come in just to watch him,” said Kohler-Cadmore.

“That’s how good he is,” he added.

Kohler-Cadmore said further, “From what I’ve seen, he’s one of the most talented cricketers I’ve ever played with.”

“The ability he has to strike the ball, but it’s not just clean hitting, it’s the different areas he hits. We saw (against Leicestershire) how powerful he is, and I was lucky to watch it from the other end. He is a very, very special talent,” he added.

“His bat swing is so quick that even when he doesn’t middle it, it still goes. He has such power for a little guy. His hand speed is so good.”

Pooran has also been hailed by Windies and Jamaican batting legend Chris Gayle as being a “world record beater,” in the making.

“Pooran, his work ethic – I must commend Pooran’s work ethic,” Gayle told reporters.

“It’s fantastic for a youngster [who has] actually just come into the team. And he’s going to be a world record beater.”

“Nicholas Pooran is going to be a savage youngster, trust me on that one,” said Gayle.
