Nowhere else in the world can you spend one day chilling in a cave hotel, the next day walking along ancient streets relatively unchanged since Roman times, and the very next at a high-tech exhibit. Turkey has a little bit of everything, from incredible natural beauty to exciting nightlife, to an inspiring historical backdrop.
Hagia Sophia Museum/Church
This museum has some incredible architecture that was innovative for its time. It features a flat dome and over 30 million gold tiles inside. It also features some beautifully detailed mosaics, some as old as 700 years.
This museum, along with other historic buildings in Istanbul, is collectively a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Pamukkale Thermal Pools
Turkey is also well known for its amazing natural saunas. These pools are beautiful works of art in their own right, with the limestone from the mineral-rich waters coating everything in a dazzling hue of white.
People from all over the world come for the thermal pool’s healing properties, which are known to heal all kinds of skin problems.
Ruins of Ephesus
This ancient ruin dates all the way back to 10th Century B.C. It includes the Temple of Artemis, which is also one of the 7 wonders of the world. The temple and city have long since faded away, but you can still walk amongst its remains and wonder what it was like to live in this beautiful and ornate city.
Visit Troy
Everybody knows the story of the brave soldiers who successfully sacked Troy by hiding in the belly of a wooden horse. While the Trojan Horse itself might be a myth, the city of Troy is very real. Visit the archeological site of Troy and see what remains of this ancient city.
Lake Van
No matter what season you visit, Lake Van has some of the most jaw-dropping scenery in all of Turkey. Lake Van is Turkey’s largest lake and has 4 islands as well as a huge Volcano as a backdrop. There’s no end to the Instagram worthy shots in this beautiful place.
Kaputaş Beach
If you want a little beach time (and who doesn’t?), Turkey has some of the best beaches in the world. With over 1,000 miles of the Mediterranean coast, you’ll never run out of white sand and aquamarine waters to call your own.
Best of all, the naturally rugged coastline has prevented hotels and other big business from taking over the beach and making it difficult to get public access. That means wherever you are, you can be assured of a wonderful time by the ocean.
Turkey is a beautiful country. There’s so much to see and do, you can visit a dozen times and still have new places to see, old ruins to explore, and dazzling cities to explore.
Turkey has a unique culture that is welcoming, architecture like nowhere else in the world, and nature so vast you can truly find the peace you are looking for. If you want a vacation perfect for everyone in your family, make Turkey your choice.
