Cuba Recloses Schools

According to press reports, authorities in Cuba have been forced to halt schools’ reopening in the island’s central province due to a small COVID-19 disease outbreak.

The report noted that Ciego de Avila school’s director Bárbara Rodríguez said 75 of the province’s 90 schools would return to televised teaching because of the outbreak.

Schools had begun to open at the start of September following a six-month break.

However, the province has reported 30 new infections with the new coronavirus over the past few weeks.

Cuba has reported 4,309 infections and 100 deaths from the disease since March.

The largest outbreak has been in the capital, Havana, which remains under a nighttime curfew.
