Former West Indies captain Chris Gayle says he is targeting a return to test cricket in 2016. The 36-year-old who recently played in Bangladesh’s T20 Premier League has not played a test match since July 2014 when Bangladesh toured the region.

Gayle also called on critics not to be too harsh on the current West Indies team saying the youngsters need time to develop in the longer format of the game.

The Windies have lost seven of their last ten test matches including an innings and 233 run demolition at the hands of Australia in their first test in Hobart.

Gayle will play for the Melbourne Renegades in Australia’s Big Bash T20 League which begins on December 17.
