Chris Gayle Eyes New T20 Cricket Record

Windies opening batter Chris “Universe Boss” Gayle must be cherishing the thought of becoming the first batsman to hit 1000 T20 sixes.

There are very few batsmen in world cricket who hits the cricket ball more savagely than Gayle.

The upcoming IPL will set the Windies star a platform to showcase his six-hitting power as he closes in on a spectacular career.

Gayle has accumulated a total of 978 sixes in T20 cricket thus far.

Currently, the 40-year-old batter is 22 sixes away from the 1000 target, and with his penchant for hitting sixes, one would not be surprised to see him achieving that feat.

In 11 seasons of IPL cricket to date, he has never failed to hit 22 sixes.

Last season he cleared the boundary rope 34 times and 27 times in the previous season.

Gayle is not only waiting to exhale but also showcase his talent in a league that apparently needs him more than his home team Tallawahs in the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

He has scored the most runs in T20 cricket (13,296), has the highest score (175), most sixes in an innings (18), and the fastest 100.

He has also hit the most fours with 1,026.

Gayle is currently in training camp in Dubai, where he is preparing to face the new IPL season with Kings XI Punjab.

He withdrew from the CPL after his selection was shrouded in controversy with the management of his home team Tallawahs and a later pick by St Lucia Zouks, the beaten finalist in the 2020 tournament.
