According to head coach Lorne Donaldson, Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz’ captain Khadija “Bunny” Shaw has pulled out of Jamaica’s squad scheduled to travel to Australia for the FIFA Cup of Nations.
The ace striker has been kicking up a storm for her club Manchester City, scoring goals at will in the league.
She has cited personal reasons for her withdrawal from the Jamaican’s squad.
Shaw is currently the leading goal scorer in the Women’s Super League in England.
Donaldson, however, said his technical staff will have no choice but to focus on the players at hand.
Meanwhile, Shania Hayles who plays as a forward for Bristol City in the English Super League has been drafted into the squad as a late replacement for Shaw.
However, the team is yet to announce a new captain.
The Reggae Girlz will travel to Australia from their respective bases on February 12 and 13. They will play Spain on February 16, the Czech Republic on February 19 and hosts Australia on February 22.
The tournament is being used as a warm-up ahead of this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup also in Australia.
