Beautiful Disaster — Jamie McGuire

“I knew the second I met you that there was something about you I needed. Turns out, it wasn’t something about you at all. It was just you.” Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire is the first book in the Beautiful series, and it is a swoon-worthy romance that will sweep you off your feet and leave you breathless.

If you’re interested in a great love story that also has a plot that you won’t be able to tear your eyes away from, then look no further. This book is the love story between Travis ‘Mad Dog’ Maddox and Abby Abernathy.

The rest of the Beautiful series books is written about the other Maddox brothers, by the way. This is a family that you’ll fall in love with instantly, and I find myself wishing (almost always) that I was one of the lucky women chosen by one of these fictional Maddox boys. Read this book, and you’ll start to see why.

This story follows the relationship of college students Travis and Abby, who meet by chance and are drawn to each other from the start.

Abby is a freshman who is running from a damaged past and trying to leave her demons behind when she meets Travis, the hot, fighting, Alpha Male of Eastern State University. When Abby loses a bet and had to leave her dorm and move in with Travis at his apartment, their story takes the first of many crazy turns.

I don’t want to give too much away because going in blind is the best way to go for a book like this. You’ll want to be completely swept away by the story and everything it has to offer.

The first time I read this book I was in college, about the same age as the main characters. Author Jamie McGuire initially manages to create a world that is so relatable and perfectly merges it with a world full of luck, family drama, and a reality that was slightly far-fetched from my college experience.

The characters in Beautiful Disaster aren’t just likable, you’ll want them to be your best friends. They have charm and charisma, an effortless cool that keeps you glued to the pages to see how their story will end.

If you look up popular books in the New Adult Genre on Goodreads, Beautiful Disaster is always at the top of the list, and rightly so given its appeal and interest. The book is packed with emotion, excellent writing, edge, drama, and real life. Love isn’t always pretty, and it’s never perfect.

There are always obstacles (however extreme they come to be in this story), but if two people are meant to be, nothing will keep them apart. Jamie McGuire brings true love to the surface and lights it on fire in this story, making it one you won’t forget long after you’ve closed the book.

By the way, if you love the story as much as I know you will, Walking Disaster is the same story written in Travis Maddox’s swoon-worthy point of view. Enjoy this book, embrace the story, and never forget that true love is sometimes disguised as a beautiful disaster.
