|The Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley has called for a new debt repayment system for Caribbean countries similar to what was given to Britain after World Wars I and II.|
Britain borrowed heavily back then to finance its war efforts with moratoriums granted on loans.
The debt repayment system allowed Britain to have the fiscal space to return to a path of development.
Mottley argued that given the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on middle-income countries’ economies, provisions should made by international financial partners to help.
