The third Test match between Australia and India will be held on 7th January 2021 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The series has become more interesting and exciting after the recent win of the Indian team in the 2nd Test.
There has been a long break for the players between the 2nd Test and 3rd Test. Australian media has kept the Indian team busy with regular mind-games off-field. They had temporarily isolated 5 Indian players, including Rohit Sharma, for an alleged breach of SOPs.
According to the source, some Indian team members are reluctant to play the 4th Test at Brisbane due to rising coronavirus and strict SOP’s.
Cricket Australia had dismissed the reports that India was unwilling to play the 4th Test.
“We’ve had nothing formal from the BCCI to suggest anything other than they’re supportive. Both teams have wanted to play the schedule as we’ve set out,” Cricket Australia CEO said.
Indian Team news
Rohit Sharma will be back after undergoing 14 days of rigid quarantine. His addition will add a lot of experience and impact on the team.
He was also recently appointed vice-captain for the remaining Test series.
Mayank Agarwal’s form is a concern for India; therefore, Rohit Sharma is likely to replace him as an opener.
Umesh Yadav has been ruled out of the test series, so India will have to explore other options as a replacement for the 3rd seamer.
The Indian team may be tempted to play left-arm seamer T. Natarajan as he brings variety to the bowling unit.
If selection is based on the pecking order, Navdeep Saini deserves to play the 3rd Test.
However, according to sources Shardhul Thakur is likely to play the 3rd Test.
Probable Playing 11: Rohit Sharma (VC), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (C), Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant(wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Navdeep Saini / T Natarajan / Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah
Australia Team News:
Australia will look to solve their batting woes as they have struggled scoring even 200+ total runs on board.
Their opening pair has been a concern as Joe Burns has miserably failed as an opener and lacks form currently.
Australian media have confirmed that David Warner will play the 3rd Test even with 90-95% fitness. His addition will add aggression to the team as he has the ability to counter-attack any opposition’s bowling unit and put them on to the back-foot at the start of an inning.
The young opener Will Pucovski is likely to make his debut and Matthew Wade might be pushed down the order to provide stability in the middle order.
No changes are expected in the bowling department until or unless they wish to rest any one of their pace bowlers.
Australia Probable 11: David Warner, Will Pucovski, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Matthew Wade, Cameron Green, Tim Paine, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazelwood.
Pitch and Weather conditions:
The pitch at Sydney suits the spinners, and the batsmen who play spinners well can score big runs. The sky will remain cloudy with regular showers throughout five days of the test match. The crowd capacity has been reduced to 25% due to the state’s daily rising coronavirus cases.
It will be an exciting match to watch as two strong international teams will face-off with series leveled 1-1. The momentum is with India, but you never know with Australia when they can make a comeback. It is an even-steven contest, and the team, which makes fewer mistakes is likely to win this Test.
