American and United Airlines reported better-than-expected financial results, despite problems brought on by the COVID-19 Omicron surge during the holiday travel period.
Both companies, however, have said the road ahead could be challenging, given the Omicron spread.
American, the United States’ largest airline, lost $921 million in the quarter, excluding special items.
That was less than analysts’ $1.2 billion forecasts and less than half the $2.2 billion it lost in the fourth quarter of 2020 before COVID-19 vaccines were widely available.
