International Business Machines Corp (IBM) plans to pause hiring, as roughly 7,800 jobs could be replaced by Artificial Intelligence in the coming years.
The company’s CEO, Arvind Krishna, told Bloomberg News that hiring specifically in back-office functions such as human resources will be suspended or slowed.
He added that AI and automation could replace 30 percent of non-customer-facing roles in five years.
His comment comes at a time when AI has become a trending topic worldwide, especially with the readily accessible ChatGPT launched in November 2022.
