Little known Afghanistan cricket team got cricket fans talking after springing a surprised victory over long-time king pin West Indies.
The Afghan won by six runs in a low-scoring but thrilling Group 1 Super 10 game in Nagpur at the World T20 in India on Sunday to leave the tournament with a consolation victory.
Mohammad Shahzad was Afghanistan’s top-scorer with 24 against Samuel Badree 3-14 and Andre Russell 2-23.
The West Indies who have already qualified for the semifinals, entered the last five overs needing 40 runs but stumbled badly in their run chase and were restricted to 117-8 in their 20 overs.
Dwayne Bravo 28 and Johnson Charles 22 were the top scorers against Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan who had identical figures of 2-26.
The West Indies who topped Group 1 now await the runner-up in Group 2 for the second semifinal in Mumbai on March 31.
New Zealand will oppose England in the first semifinal on March 30 in Delhi.
