Coming soon to a cinema near you, a black actor, starring as James Bond.
However, don’t tell this to Rush Limbaugh or people of his ilk.
Limbaugh was all hot under the collar and in a tizzy as the news went viral that black British actor, Idris Elba could replace the current 007 actor Daniel Craig when the next Bond movie is released.
Elba is known for his roles in The Wire and American Gangster among others.
“James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming. He was white and Scottish. Period. That is who James Bond is, was,” Limbaugh reportedly ranted.
How dare they to even think this, Limbaugh seems to be saying.
“But now [they are] suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton, rather than a white from Scotland,” he added.
Now to rub salt into Limbaugh’s sore, one wonders whether it would be possible for the producers to use the Jamaican artiste, Desmond Dekker’s song titled, 007 (Shanty Town) as part of the sound track.
The lyrics would be quite apt for any Bond Flick and is captured in part below:
At ocean eleven
And now rudeboys a go wail
‘Cause them out of jail
Rudeboys cannot fail
‘Cause them must get bail
Notwithstanding, the press report is said to be a rumor and is based on a leaked email from Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal, who in a private message noted that “Idris should be the next Bond.”
