It’s Valentine’s Day and for some, being single is like a disease; at least for that one day of the year. But for those who have a more positive view, February 14 is a day to celebrate the fact that you’re not in a relationship just to be in a relationship and you’re not desperate enough to be with anyone just for that one day.
1. Buy Yourself Something Nice
Flowers are nice but they die in a week. Chocolate barely lasts a day so why not splurge on something more fun. Take the money you would normally use to buy the flowers, chocolates, expensive dinner and get yourself that pair of shoes you’ve been eyeing or that watch you know would look great on you.
2. Have a Singles Party of Your Own
A lot of your coupled friends are having parties…with other couples. So being the odd wheel is no way to spend a night. Why not plan your own singles party with some friends and just have a great time? Be with people you like, have some laughs, some good food, and just make it a fun night.
3. Hog the Remote
If you’re not in the partying mood or just want to chill, it’s great to remember that the TV is yours. You have control of the remote and, hopefully, a subscription of on demand TV so you can catch up with your favorite shows which have more to do with Halloween than Valentine’s Day. Being able to fully unapologetically enjoy the simple things is a great feeling.
4. Remember that hobby…
Everybody has at least one hobby that they’ve put on the back burner for one reason or another. It’s time to enjoy it again. Whether it’s reading a steamy book or playing a video game. It’s your time to use however you want and having fun makes you happy.
5. Travel
One of the most popular gifts is a spa holiday so why not give that to yourself? Treat yourself to a nice getaway where you get pampered and come out relaxed and refreshed. You don’t have to be local. Make a weekend out of it and plan a little getaway. Of course, it’s good to get the travel plans done early as prices tend to go up the closer you get to the holiday.
6. Go Out with Friends and Flirt
The beauty about being single is that you can flirt with whomever you like without guilt or repercussions. Get some of your friends together, go out, have a great time, laugh and flirt without fear. You never know…
7. Do Something for Someone Else
Yes, Valentine’s Day is all about love but there are different kinds of love and it’s not all about receiving. There are a lot of animal shelters that need volunteers or hospitals patients who need a little love as well. Volunteering your time isn’t for everyone and it may seem counter to the day but, sometimes it’s just better to give than receive.
