Jamaica Lands Third Place As The “Coolest” Country On Earth — CNN Travels

In any national ceremonial event, Jamaicans mark the occasion with the singing of the national anthem accordingly:

Eternal Father bless our land,
Guard us with Thy Mighty Hand,
Keep us free from evil powers,
Be our light through countless hours.
To our Leaders, Great Defender,
Grant true wisdom from above.
Justice, Truth be ours forever,
Jamaica, Land we love.
Jamaica, Jamaica, Jamaica land we love.

Teach us true respect for all,
Stir response to duty’s call, strengthen us the weak to cherish,
Give us vision lest we perish.
Knowledge send us Heavenly Father,
Grant true wisdom from above.
Justice, Truth be ours forever,
Jamaica, land we love.
Jamaica, Jamaica, Jamaica land we love.

The song is not only appealing to Jamaicans but also to people globally. Moreover, the last line — Jamaica, Jamaica, Jamaica land we love, is one that is echoed by both nationals and visitors to the country as evidenced by CNN list.

Jamaica was ranked among the top three countries in CNN Travel’s 14 coolest nationalities.

In an online post, CNN said there’s more to Jamaicans than reggae, including Rastafarianism, which it described as “the most kick-back religion ever invented.”

According to CNN Travel, Jamaicans have “an accent that’s the envy of the English-speaking world and the planet’s most distinctive and recognizable hairstyle” — dreadlocks.

“Note to backpackers: dreadlocks only cool on actual Jamaicans,” CNN Travel noted.

CNN Travel also posited that Jamaica’s sprint legend Usain Bolt is the “icon of cool.”

Jamaica, however, failed to nab the number one position because of its “high murder rate and widespread homophobia.”

Taking the top spot was Brazil followed by Singapore.

Some other countries included on the list are the United States of America, Mongolia, Korea, Spain, Japan, Botswana, China, and Australia.
